Reports
Monthly reports are the core of MSPDock. They help you communicate the value of your managed services to every client in a professional, branded format.

Creating a report
Reports are created per client, per month. Each report covers a specific time period and includes sections for executive summary, ticket metrics, asset health, and recommendations.
- 1Navigate to Reports from the sidebar
- 2Click "New Report"
- 3Select the client from the dropdown
- 4Choose the report period (month and year) — the start and end dates are set automatically
- 5Select a template (or start with the MSP Standard template)
- 6Fill in each section of the report — ticket counts, SLA performance, notable incidents, and recommendations
- 7Click "Save" at any time to save your progress (reports auto-save as you work)
Tip
If you have a PSA connected, MSPDock can pre-populate ticket data and asset information automatically. Connect your PSA first to save time on report creation.
Using templates
Templates define the structure of your reports — which sections are included, their order, and any default content. MSPDock includes a built-in "MSP Standard" template, and you can create your own custom templates.
MSP Standard template
The default template includes these sections:
- checkExecutive Summary (supports AI generation)
- checkTicket Overview (total tickets, open/closed, by category)
- checkSLA Performance
- checkNotable Incidents
- checkAsset Health and Inventory
- checkRecommendations
Creating a custom template
- 1Go to Settings → Report Templates
- 2Click "New Template"
- 3Name your template and add/remove/reorder sections as needed
- 4Set default content for any section (e.g., a standard intro paragraph)
- 5Save the template — it will be available when creating new reports
AI narrative generation
MSPDock uses AI (powered by Anthropic Claude) to generate executive summaries for your reports. Instead of staring at a blank page, you click a button and get a professional, client-friendly narrative based on the data in your report.
How it works
- 1Fill in the data sections of your report (ticket counts, incidents, asset health, etc.)
- 2Click "Generate AI Summary" on the Executive Summary section
- 3MSPDock sends the report data to Claude, which generates a 150-200 word summary
- 4The summary appears in the editor — review it and make any adjustments
- 5The tone is professional, plain English, and client-friendly by default
The AI summary highlights key metrics, notable incidents, and trends compared to the previous month. It is designed to be sent directly to a non-technical business owner or decision-maker.
Tip
The more data you provide in the report, the better the AI summary will be. Fill in ticket counts, SLA metrics, and notable incidents before generating the narrative.
Carry-forward from previous reports
When you create a new report for a client, MSPDock can carry forward data from the previous month's report. This saves you from re-entering information that does not change month to month, such as asset lists and recurring recommendations.
What carries forward
- checkAsset/inventory data
- checkRecurring recommendations that are still open
- checkReport section structure and template
What does not carry forward
- closeTicket counts and metrics (these are specific to each month)
- closeExecutive summary (you generate a fresh one each month)
- closeNotable incidents
Carry-forward happens automatically when you create a new report and there is a previous report for the same client. You can modify or remove any carried-forward data.
Grading system explained
Each report section can receive a grade from A to F. Grades provide a quick visual summary of how the client's IT environment is performing in each area.
| Grade | Meaning |
|---|---|
| A | Excellent — exceeding expectations, no issues |
| B | Good — meeting expectations with minor areas for improvement |
| C | Acceptable — some concerns that should be addressed |
| D | Below expectations — significant issues requiring attention |
| F | Critical — immediate action required |
Grades are assigned by the engineer creating the report. They are subjective assessments based on the data — MSPDock does not auto-calculate grades. Clients see the grades in the portal and PDF exports, making it easy for non-technical stakeholders to understand performance at a glance.
Publishing to client portal
When a report is ready, you can publish it to the client portal so the client can view it online.
- 1Open the completed report
- 2Click the "Publish" button in the top toolbar
- 3Confirm publication — the report becomes visible in the client portal
- 4The client can view the report at any time by logging in to their portal
Published reports are read-only in the portal. If you need to make changes after publishing, you can unpublish, edit, and re-publish.
Note
Publishing a report makes it immediately visible to the client. Review all sections carefully before publishing.
Exporting as PDF
You can export any report as a branded PDF to send via email or attach to other documents.
- 1Open the report you want to export
- 2Click the "Export PDF" button in the top toolbar
- 3A PDF is generated with your MSP branding (logo, company name, colors)
- 4The PDF downloads to your computer automatically
The PDF includes all sections, grades, and data from the report. It uses your company branding configured in Settings → Company.
